Conferred at the thirteenth IAA Leadership Awards in Mumbai on 7 August 2026, under the theme ‘The Power of Balance’, recognising his leadership in building a global pharmaceutical company and his contribution to making high-quality, affordable medicines available to patients worldwide. It is the most recent major recognition of his career, given in the same year Sun Pharma announced its largest-ever acquisition.

2024

Felicitated at the Institute of Directors’ 34th Annual Day ceremony as an IOD Distinguished Fellow, in his capacity as Chairman & Managing Director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries. The fellowship recognises contribution to corporate governance and board leadership rather than commercial performance alone.

2019

An academic honour with a direct connection to the company’s history: Sun Pharma’s 2010 acquisition of a controlling stake in Taro Pharmaceutical Industries made it a substantial employer and manufacturer in Israel, and the country remains part of its manufacturing network.

Awarded by India’s principal management association in the years immediately following the Ranbaxy merger, when the scale and difficulty of that integration were most visible to Indian industry.

Given in the year the Ranbaxy merger completed, on 25 March 2015 — the transaction that made Sun Pharma unambiguously the largest pharmaceutical company in India.

Named for the industrialist J. R. D. Tata, the award recognises corporate leadership rather than financial results. It came in the year the Ranbaxy acquisition was announced.

Recognition from a business publication that has followed the company closely, in a year when Sun Pharma both announced the Ranbaxy transaction and licensed tildrakizumab from Merck — the molecule that would become ILUMYA.
